7 BEST PASSIVE INCOME IDEAS ONLINE in 2020 (that Earn $1000 per month or more!)

March 26, 2020

Have you ever asked yourself this: is it possible
to make money even while I sleep? Here’s exactly how my morning starts. I open
my eyes and ask my husband, any news? He checks on the phone how was the traffic to my website
during, how many eBooks and other products were sold during the night. We live in Europe and most of my audience
is in the United States, so most of the activity on my website and a lot of purchases happen
literally while I sleep. Anyway, I am telling you all of this because
a lot of people don’t believe that passive income is even possible. Well, I am a living
example of this because a lot of my income streams are passive and I’ll talk about them
in this video along with a few others which I don’t use personally but I know they work
great. Hi! I’m Anastasia, you can find me at anastasiablogger.com.
And on this channel, I share what I learned while building a business online, blogging
and I also share my Pinterest marketing tips on Thursdays.
Now, you might be here because you just recently left your day job and you dream of working
from home. Or, you still have a 9-5 job but you are also looking for a side hustle that
can eventually become your main source of income. Well, I am here to give some ideas
on how you can make passive income online! Yes, you can be in the comfort of your own
home wearing pajamas and earning money! What is Passive Income?
But first, what IS passive income? Is it any different from the income you receive at your
regular 9-5 job? To simply define it, what you earn from your
day job is called active income. This type of income requires you to do some kind of
work or basically trade your time for money. Active income stops the moment you stop doing
your work or putting your time and effort onto your job.
On the other hand, passive income means that you are earning regular income without constantly
putting effort into it! With active income, you have to consistently work and sacrifice
time, while passive income usually requires you to do most of the work at the beginning.
You will ONLY have to invest a significant amount of time and effort during the initial
setup. After that, it will be a breeze. Sounds like a dream, right? I just want to make a side note here, in this
video I will not talk about any passive income streams which require initial financial investment.
I like to talk about things which I really know about and I honestly have never tried
making investments in stock market. If you were looking for that type of financial advice,
if you have some money to invest and where hoping to learn this here, this video is not
for you. It is for you if you have no extra dollars to invest but you are ready to invest
your time and effort upfront into something that will become a passive income stream in
the future. How can you make a $1000 a month or more in
passive income? Again, remember that if you want a consistent
and efficient stream of passive income, then you have to do some high-quality work first.
And because you are doing this online and the Internet never rests, you can make money
even while you sleep! So here is MY top-7 of online passive income
ideas for this year! 1. Making Youtube Videos
Have you ever noticed that almost everyone seems to be on Youtube nowadays? It’s not
just celebrities and game streamers, like it used to be a few years back. Now it’s everyone!
Your mom and your grandpa, dogs and cats, your classmates… and of course lots of businesses
starting their Youtube channels because… well that’s where we all spend hours and hours
of watch time! After all, where are you watching this video right now? You and I only met because
of Youtube! Nice to meet you by the way, dear stranger on the other side of the screen!
 But did you know that if you switch the roles
from a viewer to a content creator, you can make a great passive income from Youtube? So here is how it works. Youtube shows ads
in your videos and you get paid for it. How much you will get paid often depends on the
niche you chose and on the type of audience you attract to your channel. If you are targeting
teenagers for example and a global audience, your average CPM (cost per thousand of impressions
in your videos) will be lower than if you are targeting some other demographics. For
example, if you target a business audience between 25 and 50 years old, form the United
States, you’ll get much higher CPMs. And you probably understand why you will get paid
differently. When the audience has a stronger purchasing power, advertisers are willing
to pay more for showing ads on your videos. So, becoming a Youtuber is one of the strategies
where you have to invest time and effort into creating a video. But once it’s published,
it will keep brining you ad dollars for as long as you keep your video on the platform.
Of course, you will have to consistently work on your channel uploading new videos if you
want it to keep it growing. But the passive part of the ad income on Youtube is possible
because all of your old videos are always driving you views even a year or two years
after you published them. I know this works 100% I started making over
$1000/mo only with ads on my videos, and my channel has still a relatively small subscriber
base, and the topics I covet mostly are pretty narrow focused on a specific topic. I already
mentioned, I talk a lot on this channel about Pinterest marketing and blogging for beginners.
You can see here a screenshot for my Youtube income it’s over $1000/mo and last month
for example, the video that generated the most income on my channel, was a video published
over 6 months ago and it’s trending right now because Youtube algorithm just decided
this video deserves more views and shows it in suggested videos which helps me generate
passive income from a video I published many months ago. If you think creating your own channel might
be an interesting opportunity for you, I have another video on this channel in which I covered
all the steps I made to grow my channel from 0 to 1000 subscribers in less than 6 months,
I also have there a downloadable free checklist that will help you launch your channel as
a beginner. So, I’ll give you a link to the video in the top right corner and in the
description below this video. There are other way a Youtube channel can
also work for you except ads – you could have for example a channel with product reviews
and if you become very persuasive about the benefits of some products, you can make really
good income as an affiliate of those products because everyone, or at least most of us are
checking product review videos on Youtube before we buy anything these days.
Now that I mentioned my most popular video last month is about making money with a blog,
I think it’s time to talk about the second way I earn passive income online – it’s
blogging! 2. Blogging
First, what is blogging? When I talk about a blog, I don’t mean to be honest a page
on Instagram or other social media. I mean an actual website with some useful content
your audience might be looking for. And the content of a blog typically includes texts,
photos, videos, animated GIFs, sometimes illustrations and infographics!
Blogging is one sure and most effective way of earning online passive income because even
as a beginner, you can make money with display ads on your site. You can easily apply to
Google Adsense or Media.net to start showing ads even if your blog is new. But when you
have enough traffic, you will be able to apply for higher-paying display advertising networks.
If you have reached 25,000+ monthly sessions on your blog, you can apply for MediaVine
Publisher Network which pays 5 or even 10 times better than Google Adsense for the same
amount of traffic. I use Mediavine ads on my blogs and make consistently over $4000/mo
only with ads. The good thing about display ads is that they
are always on your site and whenever users visit your blog and see the ads, you make
money passively! If you want to know more about how I make
money blogging, you can watch that popular video I mentioned, I think people enjoy it
because I showed in it all the ways you can monetize your blog and it’s not only through
ads on your site, there are many other monetization strategies. I’ll give you a link to that
video in the top right corner and in the description below this video so you can learn more about
it. By the way, my next video will cover all the
ways you can use to get traffic to your new website really fast so if you don’t want
to miss it, Subscribe to my channel and hit the Bell button to get notified when my new
video goes live. And the next way I use to make money online
which can be categorized as a passive income stream, is online course sales.
3. Online course sales If you have expertise or wide knowledge in
a particular field or subject, you can create your own online course. The trend of online
education will become even stronger this year, and it’s not going away because that’s
the direction the world is moving to. Depending on your preference, an online course
can be either a video or text-based but generally people these days tend to learn more from
video and video courses are usually sold at a higher price range which means you can make
more passive income. You can teach any topic or subject as long
as you know what you are talking about. It can range from science to business, fitness,
yoga, to even arts and crafts. Seeing where the things are going, online education will
become even more in demand in the near future, so it’s a huge opportunity and it would be
a pity to miss it, especially if you’ve been already teaching and training people offline.
So you have the teaching skills, you have the expertise, you just need to learn a few
online platforms to help you deliver your content to the customers, and well… learn
how to market your courses as well. In my most recent income report I shared that
in my best month so far, I made over $15,000 selling my signature program – it’s an online
course called Pinterest SEO Traffic Secrets. Because my expertise is in Pinterest Marketing
and SEO, and because I achieved impressive results with my own Pinterest account and
I’m consistently getting over 200,000/mo pageviews to my blog just from Pinterest, I created
a course to teach my Pinterest strategy to other online business owners and bloggers.
So, if you are interested in checking it out, either to learn about Pinterest or just to
see how I present the course, and how I promote it, the link is in the top corner and in the
description below this video. The forth way of making passive income online
I want to talk about is affiliate marketing. 4. Affiliate Marketing
If you have a website, then you might want to try it. Simply put, affiliate marketing
is when you recommend a product or service to your audience by placing your own special
tracking links. Once your readers purchase something using your link, you will get a
commission. You can basically make passive income from this with very little to no effort!
For beginners, you can easily apply to Amazon Affiliates, ShareaSale, and VigLink, RewardsStyle
and other affiliate networks. And if you don’t have a website, no need
to worry as well because you can still do affiliate marketing on Pinterest and other
social media platforms! If you have a good number of followers on Instagram for example,
then you can simply put some products on your stories and do the “Swipe Up” strategy
where your followers will be immediately redirected to a product page. If you have a Facebook page with a lot of
following, then you can make a text or a photo post with your affiliate link. And if you
have a growing Pinterest account, you can simply create pins and add directs affiliate
link to the promoted product pages. Personally, I believe that Pinterest works best for affiliate
marketing. Here is another video of mine where I teach you about Pinterest Marketing and
how you can earn affiliate income even if you don’t have a website:
The strategy number five of making passive income online, I will cover today is Digital
product sales. Now it all depends on what type of website
you have but I would distinguish between two ways of making affiliate income.
One is for sites that have a lot of content and cover a wide range of products within
a niche. For example, you could have a DIY or home décor blog and give links to multiple
products on Amazon or RewardsStyle. For this method to work, you mostly need to work on
your website content, and growing traffic to your site. There is another type of affiliate marketing
which works better for me. But people are all different that’s why I’m giving you
two different ways. So the second way requires less content pages on your site but more community
building, email list building, relationship building with your audience so they can trust
you and purchase something in a higher price-range through your links. Usually these products
are digital courses, online tools which can pay you even on a recurring model. In this
case, for every month your referred user keeps paying for the service they purchased, you
will keep receiving your commission. For this type of affiliate marketing your
commission is usually much higher, it can range between 30 and 50% of the product or
service price because your role is also different. You are not just dropping a random affiliate
link in your content, you are educating your audience about these high-priced products,
you are almost acting as a distributor or a sales person for the product and so you
can make more money with just a few products but yeah, you need smarter strategies for
this to work. Imagine a situation when you are selling a
$100 product and your commission is 50%. You make $50 on each customer, so to make about
$1000 a month you need to sell how many? Just 20 products, which is relatively easy when
you build a certain authority and expertise around the product you promote. 5. Digital product sales
Now I already mentioned online video courses and they are also a type of digital product
but I separated them because of the price range and the type of content delivery. There are many other types of digital products
that usually have a lower price range which makes it easier to sell them passively, literally
just by adding links to these products in the content on your site or some banners and
popups on your site. You don’t usually even need to build a complicated sales funnel when
you have a large traffic volume and your product solves the problem your visitor has, for a
low-cost price around $10-$15 dollars. Some examples of digital products like this
are printables which can range from planners, stickers, stationery, templates, worksheets,
and others. Another example is eBooks and audiobooks. To start with them, you can easily
sell your ebooks or audiobooks on Amazon and do a little bit of marketing to promote your
products. If you have a website or an Etsy shop, then
you can also sell your online products through those platforms. Selling digital products
is also another way where you can put effort initially and establish your name as an expert
in a certain topic. Passive income stream number 6 I’d like
mention in this video is doing a subscription-based service. It’s also called membership. Often
times, this way is preferable for business owners who don’t like making big and stressful
launches for their products, they prefer to have a consistent income stream when they
can get a smaller fee from each member but it comes to their bank account every month.
6. Do a subscription-based service If you don’t know what this means, just
imagine a gym membership or even your Netflix account. You pay monthly to get the services
they offer, right? That’s what you can do as well. If you are good at art, teaching,
or you have some resources that you can share, then you might earn money from it. What you
can do is create the things you will offer in advance and deliver them to those who subscribed
for your service in batches, once a month. You can even send the information through
email if you don’t want to invest into a platform for hosting your membership content.
Other ways to build your subscription-based service, include creating your own website
or landing page or sign up on Patreon or Ko-fi. These two websites I mentioned can also be
used as a platform for your fans or audience to “donate” to you for all your hard work. The typical membership sites charge between
$10 and up to $100/mo. In some business-related niches, people even pay a couple of hundred
dollars a month. So if we take the lower price range, with a $10 membership site you’ll
need just a 100 members to make $1000/mo in passive income. Which is really an achievable
goal given the fact that once people join, they will usually stick in your membership
for many months, so if you keep selling and marketing your business, the number of members
will be way above a 100. 7. Sponsored Mentions If you are an Instagram influencer, you probably
received those offers before. Companies will reach out to you and ask for a mention in
your Instagram Story or if you are a youtuber – even when you have a relatively small
following, you will get these opportunities all the time. This is called a micro-influencer
– and these types of accounts are actually very much in demand these days because business
prefer to pay to a smaller channel or Instagram account which has a very targeted audience
than to an account with millions of followers on some entertainment account. It’s a) much
more expensive for businesses to work with those big influencers and b) they finally
learned that the conversions and the outcome of those expensive sponsored deals are not
great because the audience of those social media accounts is not interested in their
products or services. Let me show you a tool you can use to understand
where you are standing in terms of pricing your sponsored content. For example, with
my current number of subscribers on Youtube which is not so high by the way, I’m almost
at 16k subscribers right now. This tool called Social Bluebook (it’s free to use by the
way so try it for your social media accounts if you never used it) says I should charge
up to almost a $1000 for one sponsored video on my channel. I actually think that depending on how relevant
the topic of the video is to what my audience wants to learn about, I can easily charge
more than this because on top of just mentioning them in the video, I am promoting this video
to my existing followers on other social media channels, on my Pinterest account which has
over 10 Million monthly viewers and over 40k followers, on my Facebook page and on my Facebook
group, etc. The more you can include into your sponsored mention package and the more
targeted your audience is, the higher is your potential income for this mention. Even though you need to actively do something
to mention the sponsor in your social media channels, I included this in the list of passive
income streams because in most cases, you don’t have to do a lot to get paid for these
mentions. You need to grow your social following and your audience, but you are doing this
anyway if you are building a business online. And then once you reach a certain level of
authority in your niche, sponsors will outreach to you and you don’t have to even search
for them. So all your hard work on building the audience starts paying off when sponsors
start asking you to accept their money  And now the best advice I can give you based
on my experience growing online income is that you are only safe if you learn over time
how to diversify your passive income streams. Everything has its ups and downs, display
ads on my site for example are brining me the most money in the last quarter of each
year – it’s when advertisers are traditionally burning their ad budgets before the year ends,
and it’s also a holiday season when people spend more, so advertisers are spending more
on ads as well. In January, I noticed that a lot of people are ready to have a fresh
start in their life – to learn something new, start a new website, a new business,
etc. It’s a great month when you can sell your digital courses much easier because people
are ready to get into a new challenge. At the same time, in December, especially
around Christmas time, people do the opposite – they want to spend time with families,
they save money for presents and they don’t want to start anything new in the last days
of the year. See what I mean? Also, all the online platforms constantly
change their algorithms – if all your passive income depends only on organic Google traffic
for example, one day when an algorithm changes in a way that it hurts your traffic, you might
lose 50% of your income. It might recover in a few months if you take
action but still, if you diversified your income streams, this drop could be covered
with income growth from another source of income. So if you found this video useful, give me
a thumb up, Subscribe and hit the bell button to know when my new videos go live. If you
have any questions or comments at all, let me know in the comments below this video. And before you leave, I hand-picked a few
videos that will teach you more about how you can make money online with some of the
passive income steams I mentioned today. You can watch them here and there. See you in the next videos!

Hi Anastasia, is it a requirement that in order to be accepted into Mediavine, you must have had Adsense approval first? I checked Mediavine's site, and it says "if you’ve ever been banned, rejected or had a unresolved policy violation with Google Adsense, we won’t be able to add you…" I think there are many sites that got rejected by Adsense before, then later approved. But it sounds like Mediavine doesn't want to add sites that have "ever" been rejected? Not even sites that have now improved with decent traffic?

Hi Anastasia, Is it a must to have unique content in my website (Not copied content from other sites with link back to them) to be accepted by Mediavine? Because I am not an English native speaker, and it will be very hard to me to make unique articles and content from zero point.
    Thanks

Hi Anastasia, my name is Tytiana (pronounced just like ta-tee-onna).
I just signed up for your free e-course on how to start a blog! Thank you so much, I was looking for something like this. I really want to get started with my blog and my Pinterest account and learn how to do it all properly. I have wanted to get started for months now ever since I found you searching on google, and now I finally have the money to get started, I just need a coach to help guide me in the right direction at this point. Even outside of the free e-course, do you provide other coaching or training for those who are serious about getting started but might need a little more help?

Hello Anastasia 🙂 Thank you for your awesome videos 💛 I had a question about starting a YouTube Channel, you mentioned that the revenue is mainly based on your target audience and demographic. I wanted to shart a channel in my native language, Arabic, and I know I could grow my subscribers' base to over 100K due to the number of countries (over 18 countries) speak/understand Arabic. I am capitalizing on the huge population. Having said so, the buying power is relatively low. Do you know a tool or a way to estimate how much could be earned for channels providing content in other languages? Is the buying power the only way to actually make money on Youtube? Views and subscribers do not have any impact?
    Thank you 🙂

Hi Anastasia, thanks for the video. I have a question regarding Pinterest. Do your individual Pin stats fluctuate? For example, I post a pin and after about 24 hours it get 1000 impressions. The next hour it goes to 12 impressions and then it remains at 12 impressions or 9. A good number of my pins do this and it bothers me. S
Pinterest support say it is not to worry about but it is.
