BUDGET ACCESSORIES for Canon M50

August 31, 2019

Ahoj. This is Zdenka. If you own Canon
M50, how is it going so far? I’ve had my camera for over a year now and I’m
really using it a lot. I’m truly enjoying the camera. I do have a lot of
accessories but there are still some accessories I don’t have and I wish I
had. So as I was doing the research and I was studying all the products, I
immediately thought of you. Maybe you would like to see that list as well so I
thought I would share it today in this video. Let’s go. And if you are new here, my name is Zdenka Darrula. I have been working as a photographer since 2007. I make photo and video tutorials, tech reviews and creative camera challenges. So if that’s
something you’re interested in, you might consider hitting the subscribe button. Remote, batteries, glass projector, camera protector, flesh, strap and so on. Which one is first? Okay. Number one. Canon BR-E1 Bluetooth remote. When I am taking selfies, I just connect my phone to M50
and that’s how I’m taking photos of myself, but when I am recording a video, I
don’t want to use Wi-Fi on my phone. I simply don’t want to block it so I don’t
use it and it’s quite annoying if I have to always hit the start and stop button
on my camera. I have to literally go there and do it. Yeah, I really wish I had the
remote. Let’s talk about the obvious. Batteries. As we already know, these guys
don’t last for too long so there are few options you can get. Option A there
is fairly new product available it is this battery grip. Some of the users
claimed that they were able to use the camera as much as eight to twelve times
longer. Really? I would love to test that out.
Option B. There is a kit which allows you to power your camera from an AC outlet
if you have long studio shoot and have camera on a tripod it might be for you
and this is the first one. It is Glorich ACK-E12 replacement AC power adapter
or USB Drive cable ACK-E12 mobile power supply plus DR-E12 DC Coupler LP E-12
dummy battery DC grip which is adapter kit. Option C is just getting extra batteries. I have them and use them, they work great and they were cheap. Wasabi power LP E-12 battery and it is a 2-pack and it comes
with USB charger. Accessing the doors to the batteries or just getting a memory
stick on this camera can be a big problem if you have it on a tripod. There
is a small rig cage available with a built in QR plate for arca-swiss on
the bottom. 1/4 and 3/8 threaded holes are on the bottom for different
tripods and monopods so you can mount whole bunch of things to it like microphone or monitor. We already know that it is a very good idea to keep screen protectors
on our phones. Well the same thing applies to Canon M50 and it’s screen.
There is this tempered glass screen protector available. It comes in two pack
to keep your screen scratch free and if you want more protection for your Canon
M50, sort of like a bubble wrap, then there is this silicone cover which
comes in many colors. Black, white, blue, pink, red. Well, this camera is called Canon EOS Kiss M so why don’t we just try all
these colors. No? Okay, moving on. Camera strap which came with the Canon
EOS M50 is not very practical. It’s very small, very tiny and it takes a long
time to put it on and take it off and put it on and take it off. Fortunately,
there is a better solution. It is Peak design slide light camera strap and you
can quickly put it on and off with the help of little anchors. Canon M50 has
built-in flash and i know we never really talked about it on this channel.
You know what? Maybe we should talk about it on this channel, but next time. Anyhow,
it is always better to get an external flash and you can always get the Canon
external flash but if you’re on a very tight budget, check this out.
TT560 or TT570 speed light. I think it is about $30, super
cheap and I read from people online that it works pretty good. Let’s mention
video light. Since Canon M50 is tiny camera, you can also get miniature LED
light. It covers 15 foot area and includes mini bracket. Or you can get big
one. I get this one which is CN160 it is dimmable and I also use it for light in
the background or on the table. I use it usually to lit the products whenever I’m
showing them. So these are some accessories which you might find useful.
I know I did. I’m considering getting a few of them. I listed all the links to
all the products in a video description below, so feel free to check them out and
all I have to say now is hit the thumbs up button if you liked today’s video,
subscribe to all future videos like these. If you have any questions, comments or simply want to say hello and I will say hi back, you can do so in a comment
section below and I will see you all my friends in the next video. Cau…. Ahoj….

Hi Zdenka. I've been following you for a few months now and you seen to read my mind when I need to know something about the M50. Your videos are awesome and really informative. Keep them coming ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

The battery grip interested me the most.

I have a pair of extra batteries (because the M50 battery is so pathetic, it always let's you down at the wrong times), an Amazon Basics camera strap, a Neewer CN 216 Video light and a small rode video mic.

Quick tip from users on DpReview about the silicon case is that if you use the EVF very often, t
You find your cheek or nose touching the touch screen very often. The silicon case adds an extra inch to the view finder and your face won't touch the screen.

Thanks Zdenka for a great review. Waiting for more for the Canon M50.

I just bought my girlfriend an M50 for her birthday next month. Shhh! ๐Ÿ™‚ This video and some of your previous video will help out a lot so I subscribed. She loves to take photographs and she takes good ones with her phone. I thought it would be a nice time to upgrade. As we are both beginner photographers, your videos will help us a lot since you use an M50 and you're Canadian. ๐Ÿ˜€

I have seen some bad reviews on Youtube of the glorich as it doesn't have a filter on the cable and is prone to shorting out or surging the camera buyers beware

I bought the Canon M50 around eight months ago and pushing it to the limits. I've done portraits to landscape with it and it has worked out really good. Thanks for the list of accessories that will really help. When it comes to the camera strap I use the Rapid strap. I like how it goes to my side and holds my camera really well.

Hi Zdenka, all your recent posts have been about the Canon M50 which is a shame for me as I donโ€™t use it nor am I likely to, so much better when your topics were of more general interest.

Hello preety miss , can you please share the links to your Adobe Stock and Shutterstock, long story I browse everything, I have certain images that need to meet certain criteria, buying slow over time for a typography portfolio . I have Adobe subscription and itching to make a shutterstock one as well . Do you know they removed the roll over options from the buying package on shutterstock ? I asked them directly, and if I don't take my images in a certain time I will lose them before next month arrives . Sounds to me their managers are lame . If you could share the links that would be great, thank you .

Great accessories! Definitely need more batteries. I just bought the Wasabi Power battery yesterday and still testing it out. Although I don't think is going to be enough. How many extra batteries do you have? And I've never heard of the battery grip for the M50. That seems like a good investment! Not so pretty though lol

  • Reply Snowwalker August 30, 2019 at 3:42 pm

Thank you for doing this work!

  • Reply grat2010 August 30, 2019 at 3:46 pm

I have that same Wasabi charger. I bring it along on long hikes or day trips so I can recharge batteries on the go with my Anker power bank inside my backpack or camera bag. I do 80% photos so YMMV if you shoot mostly videos. It was cheaper for me to do this vs buying the battery grip bc I already had the powerbank. The whole setup is small and pretty light.

I've been thinking about getting an LED light, glad you provided links.

So far it's great. Only thing I wish was if it was easier to use with OBS.

Came here just to ask the question: do you think you might test the M6 Mark II and compare it to the M50? The M50 was never good enough for my needs, but I have been waiting for Canon to finally release a camera that might be good enough for video for me to use my EF lenses for video. The M6 M2 is the first Canon to be inviting enough to purchase for that.

Most of the accessories in this video are applicable to a wide range of cameras, including the M6 M2, and that is my excuse as why I can highjack this comment section for an irrelevant-to-the-subject question. Thatโ€™s my story, and I am sticking to it ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Reply artistjoh August 30, 2019 at 4:57 pm

Regarding Wasabi batteries. I have dozens of batteries for a wide range of cameras and naturally I have tried several third party brands and long term I have noticed the ultimate lifetime of off-brand batteries is significantly less that Canon and Sony branded products. When factoring in the lifetime vs purchase price I have come to realise that cheaper batteries are actually more expensive than the branded product if looking at the yearly cost. It is especially noticeable with Sony cameras/batteries but seems to apply to Canon as well. There seems to be a reason the OEM batteries are more expensive – they use better electronic components. You get what you pay for.

Can you do a timelapse video

  • Reply Violet Henning August 30, 2019 at 6:14 pm

Very nice. You can build an M50 up to look like a mean machine with all the accessories. I like the videolight and the extra batteries a lot. I only have a single charger so i have to always remember to go and change out the batteries on the charger to make sure i have all full batteries before i go out. But i can shoot an hour of footage on one battery. I dont know if it is just my M50 because i hear people complain all the time. I think an hour on one battery is perfect.

  • Reply Plants On Purpose August 30, 2019 at 6:22 pm

I have the Glorich power adapter and it works beautifully for videotaping if you won't be moving around. It doesn't get hot at all either.

  • Reply Michael Didomenico August 30, 2019 at 7:06 pm

I love it, and my favorite accessory is the EF adapter

  • Reply Michael Didomenico August 30, 2019 at 7:13 pm

I have 3 batteries, and I have used them to get about 450 shots from 1 battery. I have also used them for video and they work fine as I get a good amount of 1080P video. And I have Wasabi also

Hello Zdenka!! It's great to see you again. Thank you very much for this video, you helped me a lot to make a list of priorities for the accessories that I am going to buy, 95% use of my M50 is for macro photography, the first thing I am going to buy is the battery adapter. I have 2 vivitar batteries and they have given me very good results. The silicon cover is very beautiful and I liked the black one, it helps a lot to protect the camera, the remote control I already have it and it is very useful for photography and for video it will help you a lot, in fact I do not have the original canon, I bought a generic one and it works very well in addition to not being so expensive, it is the Aodelan BR-E1A, I highly recommend it. I feel part of this video because in a previous video I described what were the accessories that I had for my M50 and you answered that you would take note of my accessories so that later you would make a video about accessories for this camera so I am very excited to have contributed with a small part of your video. Thank you very much and my best wishes from Mexico.

  • Reply Chris Heath August 31, 2019 at 2:25 am

I bought the same Smallrig cage and attached this wrist strap to the cage: OP/TECH USA 6701062 SLR Wrist Strap (Black)
Instead of the canon remote control, I bought the AODELAN Wireless Remote Control BR-E1A. It works really well and is less expensive.
I just bought the commlite adaptor so I can now attach my existing EF-S lenses.

Maam for vlogging what camera setting we need to keep and for focusing which setting we need to keep?

  • Reply Jayne Nicoletti August 31, 2019 at 12:31 pm

I have the remote and LOVE it. I also have the bigger LED light but since I mount my mic on the top, I just have it on another stand which is fine as I do not like the light on mount. It seems to just shine on my forehead so having it on a stand, with more control, works better. More or less like a fill light if I use a soft box or by a window.
