Escuela Sabática LIKE | Lección 6 | De la arrogancia a la destrucción

February 8, 2020

This video is sponsored by IADPA, where each book is a new world. Sabbath School LIKE presents the series ‘DANIEL’ From Arrogance to Destruction – Lesson 6 Let’s open the wonderful book of Daniel. King Nebuchadnezzar died a few years
after his humiliation and subsequent restitution to the throne. Twenty-three years after his death, the one who ruled in Babylon
was his grandson Belshazzar, although he did not rule alone, as he shared the throne with his father, King Nabonidus. Have you heard the saying “Like father, like son”? -“No, What does it mean?” That children resemble their parents and grandparents. -“Ohhhh.” For King Belshazzar was as proud and arrogant as his grandfather Nebuchadnezzar,
only with some differences. Nebuchadnezzar, before his conversion,
at least had some respect for the God of Daniel and kept the sacred vessels of the temple in Jerusalem in a place that, at least for him,
was sacred: the temple of his god. But Belshazzar, even though he knew everything
that had happened to his grandfather, had no respect for the true God. One day he organized a party
for a thousand of his princes. With the effervescence of the wine,
the feast became an orgy, and even worse, the king came up
with the unintelligent idea of sending for the glasses from the temple of God
to continue to get drunk, he, his nobles, his wives and his concubines. That is, they desecrated God’s sacred vessels, which means that he was not only defying Him
but attacking God Himself. But things changed from one moment to another, when from excitement they went to fear. “Fear?” “And why?” What happened is that an uninvited visitor
was present at the party: a mysterious hand writing a message
on one of the walls of the royal palace. The king was filled with fear. His face paled. His knees were knocking against each other. And if it wasn’t so urgent to find out
the meaning of the message, he would most likely have run to the royal bathroom. Following his grandfather’s tradition, he sent
for his prestigious team of useless people: “Bring the magicians, astrologers,
fortune tellers… but right now!” Although it was another magicians’
generation, they also failed. They did earn their salaries by serving very little, Something similar is happening today
with modern spiritualism Many people hope to find answers there. But the only one who can give answers is God When these failed, the queen mother made her impressive entrance into the dramatic scene. She told the king that there was only
one man capable of interpreting the message. She introduced him, so to speak,
with a resume of Daniel, and concluded by saying: “Call for Daniel, and he will tell you
what the writing means.” (Daniel 5:12, NIV) It didn’t take long for God’s prophet
to arrive in that place. He listened to the king’s tempting offer: “If you can read this writing and tell me what it means, you will be clothed in purple and have
a gold chain placed around your neck, and you will be made the third highest
ruler in the kingdom.” (Daniel 5:16, NIV) “You may keep your gifts for yourself
and give your rewards to someone else. Nevertheless, I will read the writing for the king
and tell him what it means.” (Daniel 5:17, NIV) Daniel benefited from the king’s attention to remind him of all that God had done
with his grandfather Nebuchadnezzar, and his lips did not tremble to bring him
face to face with the truth: “You have set yourself up against the Lord of heaven. You had the goblets from his temple brought to you, and you and your nobles, your wives
and your concubines drank wine from them. You praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood and stone, which cannot see or hear or understand. But you did not honor the God who holds
in His hand your life and all your ways. Therefore He sent the hand that
wrote the inscription.” (Daniel 5:23-24, NIV) This is the inscription that was written: mene, mene, tekel, parsin But before we move on to the meaning
of the writing on the wall, Let us ask this week’s question: What did the writing on the wall mean to Belshazzar,
and does it mean to us today? First of all, there is TIME OF GRACE for everyone. The first word of the three, is MENE: “MENE”: God has numbered the days of your reign
and brought it to an end. (Daniel 5:26, NIV) From childhood we are taught to count our years, but we are not taught to count our days. However, God does know how to count the days well. He counted the days to Belshazzar, who had many opportunities to know
and surrender to the God of Heaven, but pride and arrogance didn’t let him. The king had his time of grace,
and now, through the scripture, the Lord was informing him that
that time had come to an end, and that very night all his opportunities were over. We all have a time of grace, an open door to pass from darkness
to the saving grace of Christ. -“And what is the time of grace?” Well, let’s explain it this way. Salvation is not so free as some people may think. It had a very high cost: the blood of Jesus Christ. By His death on the Cross, Christ paid
to the bank of Heaven the price of our salvation. And so to speak, He put a check
in our hands to claim salvation and eternal life. But we have to go to the bank to cash that check, because when the doors of the bank close, many will be left with the check in their hands
but they will be lost forever. The door of grace will one day close, either because our life is over or because, as it is written, Jesus
will close the books and say, “It is done.” Let the one who does wrong
continue to do wrong; let the one who does right continue to do right.” This means that just like Belshazzar, whatever he did, the opportunities for him were gone. Secondly, for all of us THERE IS A TRIAL This is the second word of scripture on the royal wall: TEKEL: “You have been weighed on the scales
and found wanting.” (Daniel 5:27, NIV) Well, nowadays many people would like
to weigh themselves on a scale and have fewer pounds… “I lost 6 pounds! Yeah.” But God’s scale is not for measuring
our body weight, but our character. Aunt Ellen confirms this: “God is weighing our characters, our conduct, and our motives in the balances
of the sanctuary.” (1TT 354.2) That may sound scary. If our character was on one side of the scale and the perfect character of Christ
was on the other side, I think even the holiest of us would be
thrown off like a catapult. “So how can we be victorious in God’s judgment?” It’s easy: if we allow Jesus to ride
with us on our side of the scale. Then the weight that is missing
from our weak character will be covered with the weight
of Christ’s wonderful character. Do you see? If we accept Jesus as our Savior, If we surrender daily at the feet of the One who gave His life on the cross for our salvation. There’s no need to fear the judgment, for it’s on behalf of the universe and the children of God. What we should fear is living a life without Jesus, wasting the opportunities He gives us every day to cash the check of grace and
make our salvation effective. That is what happened to Belshazzar. He rejected God again and again. He desecrated His name. And when he was weighed in the scale
he went out like a catapult. And thirdly, that for everyone THERE IS A REWARD. The last word of scripture meant a strong judgment. PERES: “Your kingdom is divided and given
to the Medes and Persians.” (Daniel 5:28, NIV) As soon as Daniel finished speaking,
he received the reward offered by the king. But it is paradoxical that Belshazzar would also
receive his reward that very night. Exactly as the prophet announced,
Babylon falls and Belshazzar is killed. While the king and his courtiers were drinking, the Persians dug a canal to divert the Euphrates River and invaded the city through the riverbed. Thus the greatest empire that mankind
has ever known came to an end. Babylon, the head of gold, no longer existed… Now, what does all this have to do with us? Listen up! The book of Revelation presents an angel
who will say with a loud voice: ‘Fallen! Fallen is Babylon the Great,’ which made all the nations drink the maddening
wine of her adulteries.” (Revelation 14:8, NIV) Obviously, it is not about historical Babylon, because it fell that fateful night in the year 539 B.C. It is about spiritual Babylon. Of a power that has historically attacked God’s
people and has desecrated His sacred Word. Everyone who bows down before man-made
images drinks the wine of Babylon. Everyone who desecrates His holy
Sabbath day does so as well. Whosoever participates in the sexual
debauchery of our days, in drunkenness, in spiritualism, whosoever lives with his back to the Word of God, fornicates with Babylon, the great whore. But one day, when the door of grace is closed
and God’s judgment is irrevocable, spiritual Babylon will fall and all those who persist in drinking
of her wine will also have their reward. But those who stand firm like Daniel
will also be given their reward… “Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according
to what they have done.” (Revelation 22:12, NIV) Ours will not be a perishable reward
like the one Belshazzar gave to Daniel, but a reward that will never end:
salvation and eternal life. Sabbath School LIKE invites you to continue
