iPad Pro 12.9 2018 Best iPad Ever Made

December 2, 2019

this is my beloved twelve point nine
inch iPad pro the 2018 edition and I love this thing there’s a few things
holding it back I’m not gonna lie we’re gonna talk about those and I know
I’m a little late to the review party but hey I’m on a parking garage roof B
it is really bright outside and C just let’s talk about it let’s do this now
you guys might have thought I was kidding but you can most certainly see I
am on a rooftop the whole video is gonna be filling up here I have no idea why I
just figured you know it let’s let’s do something different let’s let’s let’s
film a video on a parking garage roof and the blinding Sun against my pale
complexion so I can get melanoma for you this is easily the best iPad Apple has
ever designed now I do kind of wish I would have went with the 11 inch instead
of the twelve point nine inch because the four point nine issue regardless of
the size reduction it’s still a very very big iPad but all of the design
changes have really stacked up to deliver a fantastic product I love the
box of your corners I love the flatter back I love minimal bezels on this thing
love the fact that it’s got touch ID now favorite part this oh I didn’t make this
out Oh still not my go sound any other time it
would stick it’s got the same type of for speaker
setup as previous iPad pros you got you know the two on the top and then two on
the bottom I’m okay with that I just I really like the way this thing looks and
feels it feels like a professional tablet and I think that’s what they were
going for considering it’s got pro in the name now where Samsung has the
tittie notch Apple has the nipple camera ring it looks like if you were to take a
pepperoni and then push your finger through it I guess it’s got to have some
type of unique standout feature and it’s got the nipple Kimber ring the look on
my face right now is like so concerning it’s like he just looks so pitch drop
but it is so mother and bright right now that I cannot open my eyes from a
functional and usability standpoint when you factor in like the power of the iPad
pro combined with like the form factor Apple was like it was close to
really having the perfect two-in-one like but there’s a few things that make
it to where I can’t travel with this as my primary laptop and that’s not saying
that a lot of people can’t because a lot of people that are buying this aren’t
video editors you know they might be photo editors and you can do tons of
photo editing on here now I’m would really staring right into
the damn Sun but this is really cool it makes my head look small I look tiny so
here’s the thing I know that potentially the iPad pro could handle all the video
editing I needed to handle because of the hardware capabilities that’s not my
issue my issue is born the software like it doesn’t have a dedicated file system
other than files which no idea what that even does other than handle all your
cloud storage which is just pointless because you could download the cloud
storage applications I don’t know the other thing is a lack of support for
professional codecs I mean this is probably not gonna bother most people
because most people were editing standard Sony footage or Fuji footage
Canon Panasonic I’m not sure what the hell you would shoot with an Olympus
nonetheless you’re using more of like consumer codecs h.264 based codecs and
that’s fine like this can do it just fine but when you step into the pro res
realm which is an apple codec you can’t do that on this and that’s a huge hinder
to my workflow because I edit a lot of red raw footage and when I can’t shoot
red raw like for instance if I’m on the road or I need a quicker turnaround then
I’ll shoot pro res on my read or write right now I’m a shooting pro res on my
sony granted I could use the internal codec
but I choose not to I want the most out of my camera and that’s one area I can’t
do that with this I mean if you’re a photo editor it’s not really a problem I
mean you can edit hall photos you can edit JPEGs you can edit tips you can
edit Tiffany’s you can edit Jeremy’s you can edit Malone’s you could use things
like Snapseed Lightroom Photoshop photographers this is a great tool
unless you need like that super high definition the hell is that unless you
need like a high resolution monitor because you’re doing like a lot of like
high resolution photo editing then this is gonna be just fine and it’s so light
so and so mobile that it might help you if
you’re a photographer for video editors it’s not really the best experience but
there’s other things though it is seriously hotter than Satan’s nutsack so
if you’re editing standard h.264 based footage or even h.265 you should be fine
like you can edit it in luma fusion premiere rush iMovie and the funny thing
is luma fusion on the iPad pro actually renders faster than my 2017 MacBook Pro
which is just crazy most of the time not all the time and you can do a lot of
effects within luma fusion so my next problem has to do with the lack of Mouse
support I understand that it’s iOS but this is a tablet you are claiming that
it is a professional tablet and there’s no mouse support you can get the Apple
pencil and that’s fine but I don’t know why there’s not a mouse dedicated to
just iOS specifically on the iPad this would unlock more capabilities I don’t
mind using the Apple pencil which is not the video editing
I don’t mind it in photo editing and I don’t mind it and of course illustrating
if I was a good illustrator but for video editing dragging dropping
double-clicking I just I really don’t prefer the Apple pencil I mean I just
it’s not really my cup of tea I would rather have some type of Mouse such as
integrated into your smart keyboard cover which is just garbage a guy really
cannot stand the texture on it I can’t stand it click and I can’t stand the
price it’s very expensive I know it sounds like I’m harping on the iPad like
I’m being a Debbie Downer and just sitting there bashing it but that’s not
so because I am a huge I pad supporter I’ve had the original iPad all the way
up until this latest generation pretty much any time a new iPad is released I
go out and buy one I’m one of those stupid idiots that waits in line or
pre-orders just to ensure that I get the latest and greatest iPad because out of
all the devices that I currently have that is one that I will upgrade every
single year more so than my phone if I had that choice so it’s not that it’s
just I feel that Apple kind of went half way in but didn’t go all the way in
they could have went all the way in they could have made something that was
revolutionary but they choose not to like baby they just mean ah no we’re not
gonna do that I don’t know if that made sense the good thing is they did ditch
select import’ and they went for us PC which is awesome kind of unifying the
MacBook and the iPad granted that the iPad is supposed to be like a MacBook
replacement there’s a lot of benefits to it being us PC it’s more Universal so
finding a cord is gonna be a little bit easier not saying lightning was
difficult but us PC is definitely more widely accepted you have Android phones
and now you have Apple products that use it I mean you could always do something
like this which is the Nomad grizzly bear hair threaded fine-toothed
unbreakable cable jaw link down below to us PC the u.s. PC it supports like 4k 60
Hertz this is the Mophie power station 3 XL which you can actually charge a
MacBook or a MacBook Pro so it has very very high watt output in other words
like this is charging at 18 Watts right now which is pretty awesome for
on-the-go when it comes to media consumption you really can’t get better
than the iPad iPad pro 2 1.9 inch in particular the 11 inch is gonna offer
like a very similar experience but being that the 12 point 9 inch does have a
bigger display and that display is really really beautiful I mean it’s got
accurate colors it’s bright it could be a little bit brighter for outdoor
visibility purposes but it’s okay promotion is awesome and I can’t wait
for promote to come to like the MacBooks and the imax because it is smooth it is
smooth like taking some virgin olive oil and pouring it all over your body and
going down a slide playing games on it watching movies the speakers are nice
and loud they have a lot of bass for a tablet so even if you’re just using it
to listen to music on it’s awesome they even kept the headphone jack did that I
mean you can always hook up some air pods to it if you want a more personal
experience but unless like I was in a coffee shop or just in a group of people
where I couldn’t listen to my speaker’s out loud
I really wouldn’t use them of course you can’t talk about the iPad without
mentioning the new accessories like the new Apple pencil which the charging
mechanism on that is just light years ahead of the old one because
instead of having to plug it into the Lightning port on the bottom or in this
case a USBC port and making the iPad look like has a penis sticking out of it
just clicks on magnetically easily the best reason to get one of the new iPads
the new Apple pencil also has like a touch sensitive area on it so you can
double tap that area and it’s gonna switch to your eraser when you’re using
something like Photoshop sketch or procreate procreate you procreate a baby
with the Apple pencil pretty sure you can customize that little touch gesture
though so you can go into settings and either do eraser or your previous
function I think it was yeah also the new smart connector instead of it being
on the side of the iPad it’s located on the back I’m a fan of the new placement
not a fan of how the smart type keyboard smart type or smart type cover connects
to the back of it not really a fan of that simply because it Wiggles around a
lot and it could easily come undone while you’re carrying it thus leading to
a broke iPad something that I’m not a fan of like the connection itself is not
very strong as what I’m trying to say I feel so far away from you guys right now
like so far away like I can’t the thing is the iPad pro is really pricey I paid
almost 1,800 ollars from my model it did come with LTE I didn’t get the one
terabyte or even a 512 gig I got to 256 with LTE with Apple care and the
accessories just to make it worthwhile so when you factor in all that $1,800 is
extremely expensive and you can get a laptop for that amount and then edit
professional codecs does one thing I know about professional gear is anything
what Pro in the name is gonna cost you more money and that’s the same case with
the iPad that said it does have potential to edit all of these
professional codecs and become a professional tool but as it stands iOS
is really crippling it what do you guys think though does the ipad pro deserve
the pro name let me know down in the comments section also let me know did
you pick up one for yourself I really do enjoy mine I’m not gonna give it up I’m
not saying that it’s not worth it but if you don’t have the cash to spin on an
iPad Pro and you want something that’s going to open up your creative workflow
than what you currently have you’re gonna want a laptop hope you guys
enjoyed this video drop it a thumbs up if you did subscribe for more content
like this hit me up on social if you want to talk to me more direct and I’ll
see you guys later I’m gonna go find my car get out of here

I see your points ..! Youโ€™re right .. iOS 12 is holding back the iPad Pro..
In my personal use case, the only addition I want, is a better files manager and support for external storage. I got the same model as yours 12.9/256/LTE..
For my work, study/notes, content consumption, photo editing, emails/fb/comics etc, the iPad is perfect.

Fair points regarding Pro Rez and Red codecs. For someone needing those supported, it sucks, yeah.

I'm not a Pro video editor and don't need that. I use an Old Lumix, my iPhone, Drones and an Osmo Pocket to make small movies. Luma Fusion has so little stutter as I drag on the timeline of a 4k 60FPS, for an app that cost 20 bucks, it makes Adobe Premiere look like it was made by school kids. Sure, it lacks 'Pro' features. No Lumetri, no incredible Audio processing, but then it's 20 bucks. I paid peanuts but no monkeys showed up.

I was going to replace my 4 year old MacBook Pro 15" but in all honestly the only thing I'd feel comfortable replacing it with would be another MacBook Pro 15". It's the colour accuracy and just the way it handles things. For the same amount as your iPad cost you'd get an ok gaming PC with a shitty colour reproduction screen, but fast refresh rates for gaming, a sporty graphics card like a GTX 1070 but nothing stable for accurate renders. It would have a crap battery and burn your legs and sound like a miniature jumbo jet was farting in a brass instrument.

You could get an entry level PC workstation, like a Dell Precision as example, but for the money you spent on the iPad, you'd be lucky to get a Quadro p1000 and 8gb of ram with a bland screen but at least it would be upgradeable and if you spent the same amount again doing so, it would be decent, for sure.

So when you look at it that way, the 1800 all in (you can use an old imac magic bluetooth keyboard, buy a non LTE version, get a 25 dollar case that's as well made as the crappy Apple one for 119 and I'd get the pen… I'd put my name on it and pull it out whenever possible), you've got yourself a 4k editing workstation with a screen brighter than almost any portable device on the market, true colour, a processor that kicks most things in the nuts and will do for a several generations. It's silent as it needs no fan… And it's light as hell. It's got the battery life of an old casio watch, iOS13 is rumoured (I cannot emphasise enough that I include this word) to have a massive 'Files' overhaul, iPad specific new UX design for the' homepage', multiple user sign ins… yes, my kids can use it without seeing everything on it (hang on, they can use my old iPad that didn't cost a small car) It's actually a F – – –ing bargain ๐Ÿ˜€

    Nice car park!

2011 11โ€ Mac air can run desktop version. Why not a 2018 ipad Pro? I wish they would allow it.
