NO MONEY ?Tired of the Rat Race (Make A change)What cheap and frugal living Looks Like

January 3, 2020

but in the rhythm of life what is the
rhythm of the frugal life well follow me along today and I’m gonna share with you
what I do each day and how my life is lived some of you will find it very
interesting and others of you say you live the same life that I do but you
know what it’s the rhythm of the frugal life so let’s get started on today so
the first thing we’re gonna do today is the rhythm of a frugal life you gotta
get water on the stove and we’re gonna heat it up because we have the dishes
from last night mama always taught me to always have things cleaned up or read up
in the night before and I usually do that but hubby likes to have a bowl of
cereal before bed and so we have little odds and ends of dishes you taught me
the Mennonite way of keeping a house and the Mennonite way of keeping the house
is keeping a very tidy house that means keeping things red up such a cold winter
morning we’re gonna fill this tea kettle up with some water we’re gonna make some
oatmeal for the chickens I give the chicken to oatmeal every once in a while
just to warm their bellies their animals is something that’s very important we
want to treat our animals like we would be treated animals have feelings too you
know but my eggs for two days have so many eggs so I need to wash these off
and put them in the refrigerator a lot of people let their eggs sit out but I
like to put mine in the refrigerator I cannot believe it how much my chickens
are still laying even in these winter months this is the first time that my
chickens lay like this it’s amazing if you don’t have artificial light a lot
of times your chickens will stop laying their eggs but for me big people I’m
laying all right now you’ll put some hot water in here so this is how I make the oatmeal for my
chickens now the water is pretty warm so we’re going to make sure the water is
not too hot that’s just nice and warm for them so while this oatmeal soaks for
a couple minutes we’ll go out to the chicken house and we’ll open up their
gate and let them out sometimes when I go to the food pantry
they’ll have oatmeal that’s expired for a couple years and that oatmeal you
don’t know you’re just not sure about it so I take it for my chickens and that
really helps me out all right so let’s go out in the chicken house so let’s
bundle up because it’s cold let’s go out the chicken house and let’s let the
chickens out and I’ll show you how they love their oatmeal and take you out to
the chicken house then I’m going to be real quick because I want you to hear
the beautiful birds that are seeing this morning are you ready are you ready to see how
hungry they are warm oatmeal in a cold day yum-yum now
the chickens are fed now we have to get on to my chores so let me show you what
I’m working on today it’s another beautiful day I have been so blessed in
the month of December to have beautiful sunny weather
it’s been amazing so that means yeah it’s laundry day let’s go get our laundry burn it’s cold
out here but it feels so good so many people ask me why am i outside when it’s
cold cuz I like it being outside gives me a lot of energy
helps me throughout the day anyway there’s gonna be a lot of snowy days
where I’m stuck in the house as long as I can be outside the better for me way
we wash your clothes wash your clothes wash your clothes this is the way we
wash your clothes around me this is the way we wash your clothes wash your
clothes this is the way we wash your clothes sir early in the morning all right that parts done I have to make
my bed and I have to do my dishes and then this will be finished and then I
can hang the wash up every single day this is what we do all right so we’re gonna start watching
the clothing and now we’re gonna go and I’m gonna do some cleaning up as you see
I don’t have my rain barrel I only have my rain barrel in the spring and the
summer and the fall I have to put it away because it’s freezing temperatures
I do love washing my clothes by hand on a hot summer day I enjoy doing that but
it’s just too cold to get my hands wet today so that’s why I use my portable
washing machine oh I think it’s really unique and I think it’s really quite
amazing you know everyone’s – well somebody will come on and they say well
I’m playing pioneer life you know what I probably am playing a little bit of
pioneer life but you know life is a stage we’re always stage and this is how
I have to live because I don’t have the amenities that a lot of people have and
so I try to make it into a game and because I’m laughing and because I’m
having fun people often associate that with staging or it’s not real it is real
this is my life but my personality is one to have fun my personality is one to
enjoy things listen I have to do this why not do it with a happy face being
grumpy isn’t going to help me get my work done and being grumpy saps all that
life energy out of you so it’s really important when you have to do something
to try to do it with a happy heart because you know what what’s your
alternative doing it grumpy and feeling miserable or doing happy and playing a
game yeah my friends this is my stage this is my life and I live it abundantly
hey everybody wait a second if you like videos about
my daily life and you like to see how do I do things here on the homestead take a
look at all these videos below it’s three years worth of beautiful videos
that I get to share with you my life and my dreams for the future take care
everyone pants it’s been another great day here
on the homestead I hope you’re staying warm and I hope you have a real good
night take care everyone we’ll see you guys
tomorrow bye

Tessie, what is the rolling clothes line called? I really like that. We have only ever used two lines attached to โ€œT postsโ€. The rolling clothes line looks to be more efficient.

The last hen out of the house and slow to come to the oatmeal is my favorite, because I imagine her thinking โ€œwhew itโ€™s cold out here, I should have stayed in bed a bit longerโ€. What is that hens name?

You are a resourceful woman with innovating ideas, Tessie. ๐Ÿ™‚ Altho I love to be out in the yard in winter, not sure I'd like having to do the washing there tho. lol. I wonder, Tessie, I can't be your only fan fascinated by the oil lamps; do you have, or could you make a video solely on how they work, what oils to use, how to clean them etc? I'd really love to know as I'm sure others would. ๐Ÿ™‚ Felice anno nuovo! ๐Ÿ™‚

Have you thought about making magnetic window quilts for the winter. You can find them in RV equipment or you can also make them yourself. The magnets attached to the metal window frames at night to keep drafts out and warm in.

Good morning Tessie. You brought back fond memories of my Great Aunt Annie ( Grandma Hazel's sisier-in-law).
feeding the chickens and barn kittens with warm oatmeal. That was back in the 1950s. Annie's husband Ray, brought me one of those kittens when I was four year's old. He told me when the litter was born and said I had to wait 8 weeks for a kitten. 8 weeks !! That was an eternity! Every Monday Uncle Ray would deliver fresh eggs and I asked after my future kitten. " Not yet Diane," , he would reply…week AFTER week. Finally he came to to our door with eggs and a burlap bag. "Where is my kitten?" I asked. And he just smiled. I burst in tears, thinking he was never giving me a kitten. Uncle Ray opened the burlap bag and out sprang a tiny dark grey tabby kitten! " What are you going to name him?' Uncle ray asked. " BUTTONS !" I replied ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks for that memory Tessie!

I am seriously thinking of getting a twin tub washer since our washing machine is on its last leg. Do you use your wash and rinse water to water your gardens? I've been reading about grey water use and as long as toxins are avoided, it is safe for both flower and food gardens. It would save a great deal of water. When I had hens I used to enjoy making them warm mash in the cold months. I must say, my girls stopped laying when it got cold. You are really fortunate that they are still going strong for you. ๐Ÿ™‚

Good message Tessie! Happy New Year! Putting the eggs in the fridge prolongs their "life"–less evaporation, especially if you don't wash them first (except the ones with poop of them, of course). I had a small flock of red sex-linked birds, and they layed right through the winter when young. I think it is because they are bred to be egg-laying machines. I liked my Dominiques because they lived longer and layed longer, which was OK for us because we just wanted eggs to eat and manure for the compost pile and gardens. I had some 5-6 year old birds that would still lay intermittently! Also the Dominiques were excellent foragers, which cuts down on feed bills.

I have recently found you in December of 2019. I thank you for sharing so much of your life and story. You have a sweet soul. I have a question. I am looking to decrease my electric bill. What kind of oil do you use for the lamps? What is the name of the Lamps? I am such a newbie at trying to figure this out and I truly believe that our Good Lord from above led me to you. I appreciate your help or advice on this. Thank you dear.

Hey Tessie, I have a question that I bet you might be able to help me with. For a while now when I buy eggs from the grocery store, they don't taste like they used to. Are the chickens that lay store bought eggs being fed with grain that is filled with antibiotics? These store bought eggs taste horrible. What do you think? Is there a brand that you are aware of that does not have that chemical taste?

I don't have chickens, BUT I WANT SOME!!! ๐Ÿ”โค I think your chickens keep laying all those eggs because they are happy and loved. I really do.
