When “SHALL NOT” Stops Working – The Fight

September 12, 2019

We are at a pivotal time in American history. Everything offends someone. The mere possession of an inanimate object
can have you labeled as a domestic terrorist and while this is happening, we as a community
are throwing a temper tantrum. Welcome back to the gun collective, my name
is jon patton and the fight for gun rights continues. It was a couple weeks back that I tweeted
and reposted a comment I made about the way to move our community forward. I said: And that quote pissed a few people off. I think largely because people often misinterpret
the word conversation to mean the same thing as compromise. Some people heard me say conversation with
the opposition and immediately started stomping around and saying SHALL NOT. Not once have I ever wanted to compromise
on the right to bear arms. There’s no reason to do that. It is enumerated in the US constitution. However we are at an impasse. Our right to bear arms is more infringed than
it ever has been. A lot of folks are talking about repealing
all gun laws as if that is even close to a possibility right now. Ideally, sure, lets scrap all that garbage
off the books… but here in reality, they are PILING up laws against us and all we seem
to be able to do is stand in place and hope we don’t get pushed over. Its like demanding that we get to Jupiter
before we even get people on the surface of mars… it’s not impossible but we damn sure
aint gonna make it happen overnight. But there is a way to move forward. We need to push back. And I’m sure some folks might disagree with
my methodology but hear me out. Let me take a second to share something I’ve
learned about human behavior. Some of you may have heard me say this before. I’ll say it as clear as I can. No one likes being told that they are wrong. One more time. NO ONE, likes being told, they are wrong. Why does that matter? Eff their feelings right? Well of course feelings don’t matter when
it comes to facts. However, we are not losing this fight based
on facts. We are losing because we have seemingly been
unable to push our fight forward through emotionally connecting with the other side. If you are talking to someone that is either
anti gun or not sure about gun ownership, and the conversation starts to get challenging. Its very easy to fall back on the constitution,
but if you are speaking to people that fundamentally disagree with the constitution, as stupid
as that might be, you are essentially telling them or making them feel like they are wrong. And that causes people to dig in even harder
on their points. What we should be doing, is letting people
speak and actually listening to their concerns and then helping them understand your point
of view. Instead of trying to shove it down their throats
with the use of logic and facts, we need to take a different path. Educate people enough and guide them into
thinking that your way of thinking is their own original thoughts. Plant the seeds of freedom in their brains
and step away while they grow. Only tending the garden as needed. The anti gunners are excellent at making emotional
arguments and convincing the impressionable that gun owners are evil. They say things like “don’t you care about
the lives of the dead” or “what about the children” and they will even go as far as
having crying children up on a news broadcast after a shooting… I call that weaponized children. Of course we care about the lives lost. Of course we care about children. But we are being painted into a corner and
labeled as the enemy because we refuse to be punished for the acts of a murderer or
terrorist. Educate through discussion. Sit down with your fellow man and talk to
them. Be honest, be kind and be understanding. Those children crying on TV may have just
lost someone very important to them. That’s incredibly sad. But at the same time, it’s important to understand
that the sadness of those kids can be used in different ways. Tell a story about your own children or loved
ones. Paint the picture of your family being destroyed
if you were unable to defend yourselves. Help people understand that being defenseless
is not a moral high ground. Being responsible parents might just mean
stopping a bad guy from hurting your kids with the use of a firearm. That is the same tactic they have been using
for years. Emotionally connecting with people to educate. It is time we took the opportunity and challenges
we are faced with nationwide and turned things around. Show up at rallies, contact your lawmakers
and get involved anywhere you can. We have never had more gun laws on the books
then right now, and the only way to turn that around is by showing people how much that
can ruin lives. Just because you are having a conversation
with people, does not mean you have to give an inch. I hope that a lot of you actually take something
away from this. I hope that this mindset makes you feel empowered
to take charge of your rights and push back. Together, pushing in the same direction, we
can turn things around for gun rights in the US. If you have anything to add, please let me
know in the comments below and of course if you think this needs to be seen by others,
share it everywhere. Be sure to hit the like button as well. It all helps spread the message. As always, thank you all for watching. We’ll see you soon.

OUTSTANDING. EVERY word is true, makes sense and SHOULD be spread as it will make more ground that screaming at the clouds. There is NO reason anyone should criticize what you have said. I ask everyone to watch the same message on Garand Thumb (gun control) Trump, the NRA or your local gun nut will not help you and could actually care less. YOU have to be a responsible, intelligent, articulate and saner person at and off the range. Screaming SHALL NOT and DONT TREAD ON ME fuels their fire and gives merit to the impression they have of us. Be an adult. Also….STOP filming yourself drinking beer and shooting propane tanks….and posting it! If they see the average gun owner is reliable, intelligent and mature…then there may be an understanding. Stop shouting and….listen, comprehend, then…..educate.

You actually think you can convince an anti gunner? You might as well try to teach stones as convince a liberal. You are advocating for wasting our time, we need to reach the young at an impressionable age like they do with their propaganda and their socialist teachers. THATS why they are successful… indoctrinating the youth, nothing else.

If I give logic and facts with my wife who is part time anti gun yet she can dot the eyes on a target with surpluses 7.62×25 makerov with little training that I have had time to give her. We have been married 35 years and she has been with me thru a 24yrs Army service and retirement so as one would think she is not only my wife but best friend and battle buddy but when she gets on a roll after a shooting on the news she starts pushing my buttons and I have to tell her I love her but it will still be from my cold dead hands lol.

I have a friend who is a psychologist who is a staunch supporter of the Second Amendment, Jewish, and supports President Trump. Many of her clients are far left Democrats. They frequently bring up President Trump and the 2A. Any attempt to have a rational discussion with them on the subject of Trump and 2A, is immediately shut down, because they are set in concrete that Trump and guns are evil. Even when shown fact based evidence from news outlets they follow, like CNN (rare, I know), they refuse to believe it. How these left wing nuts became so delusionally convinced on their opinions is beyond me. It's like the Nazi Goebbels said, "a lie told often enough becomes fact". How can we convince these people without truthful outlets they will believe?

Here's the problem with your otherwise great idea: You are applying logic to people who have willingly cast it away. They are not interested in facts, logic, data, or even their own hypocrisy. They want the yoke of servitude. They demand to be less free. They celebrate ignorance.

You can not have a conversation with a brick wall. These people don't even blink when presented with how these laws can and will be used against them, or how hypocritical they are. We must stay engaged at all levels, but this is not a fight that will end peacefully. We are LONG past that point.

  • Reply ken1139 September 10, 2019 at 7:36 am

Um… No. You have completely misidentified the true nature of the problem. This is not a political argument. The USA is experiencing a deadly serious form of covert war. Anybody who has served in a psyops unit in any branch of the military will immediately recognize the tactics.
    — 1st: “The state must declare the child to be the most precious treasure of the people. As long as the government is perceived as working for the benefit of the children, the people will happily endure almost any curtailment of liberty and almost any deprivation.” ― Adolf Hitler
    — 2nd: "Who votes doesn't matter. Who counts the votes matters" paraphrase — Joey Stalin
    — 3rd: Research "Operation Gladio" and the "Strategy of Tension". Watch the YouTube documentary "NATO's Secret Army". You'll understand everything that is happening today.
    — Massive voter fraud in demonrat controlled precincts installed a large number of "enemy agents" to public office in 2018. These people were neither legitimately elected, nor do they represent the will of the people. Understand that our nation is genuinely at war.
    — Gun control is only one issue. Our entire republic, our constitution and bill of rights – our very culture and way of life are all at stake. The enemy controls the vote through rigged machines and tabulators in many states; they control education, the entire mass media, and they are attempting to silence "dissenting" voices in alternative media (there is no such thing as "dissent" when free speech prevails). They are even replacing the population with more ignorant and compliant subjects through both illegal and legal immigration.
    — The enemy's finances and organization far exceed what would be considered possible for any simple foundation or political movement. No, this subversive effort exists on a much larger scale – a scale more likely to be similar to that of a foreign state with the capacity to create unlimited fiat currency at will to finance their effort. China? Saud? Israel? Global Central Banks? All of the above? Who knows. What I do know is that the fight is much larger than you have identified.
    — Your suggestion to "educate" opponents is not incorrect, but your subject and scale of the topic pale when compared to the reality of our situation. Think much, much, much larger. All Americans need to carefully consider what they hold dear. All need to recognize that their own rights and freedoms are at stake – not just the rights and freedoms of "others". We are all in this together.
    — Our rights – all of our rights – are both natural and unalienable. They were neither granted by government, nor can they be repealed or regulated by government. CONGRESS HAS NO LAWFUL POWER TO INFRINGE UPON OUR RIGHTS. Everybody must call their representatives AND THE WHITE HOUSE… NOW… even if your reps are un-elected enemies like mine. Do it anyway.
    — If we fail to prevail in the political debate, this situation won't end well for anybody. Hope for the best. Prepare for the worst, and never, ever quit. History shows that if they win, liberty-minded people like us will be exterminated. It can't happen here? It already is happening here. For anybody who has even a minimal knowledge of history and an understanding of recent changes in key legislation, the situation really is that serious.
    — WAKE UP! May God help us.

No. Jon. You're missing a very key portion of the equation. They don't want to talk… they just want to ban guns and wave a magic wand and change the constitution. You are a day late and a dollar short with these theories. 2A guys have tried for decades to talk to these fools to no avail. How do you think bump stocks got banned? Each talk only leads to another encroachment, each encroachment just empowers them more because they are snakes. Your theory would be good to go if we were dealing with rational people. The fact is that we aren't and we haven't been for decades. They are on winning side of the zero sum money game in this country so now they are using the brainwashed sheeple to move their agenda further forward. I'm sorry but you're wrong. Talking to snakes wastes more time that we don't have. Talking to sheep only makes you look like the crazy one. Please give us more than this Jon.

We are losing this fight because of MSM propoganda. This issue is entirely fabricated, there is absolutely no data behind their side's position. To the extent that mass shootings are a problem it's because dying legacy media makes mountains out of molehills in order to get eyeballs on their content. The 2A community will never get anywhere until this fact is confronted. The USA is an empire and a dying one at that, and the fact that MSM and all these millionaires, billionaires, celebrities, and politicians are vying so hard to take away our guns is because they know their time is running out. They're scared to death of losing power and us rising up like the Bundy's did all across this country.

While I respect your rational point of view, it’s impossible to reason with unreasonable people. This is the fight we are fighting. Anti-gunners HATE guns and gun owners. You cannot have a rational discussion with someone who hates you, because at the core of every rational discussion must be a foundation of mutual respect. If a person does not respect gun owners as intelligent people with rights, why would they be compelled to ever see another point of view?

For me I always bring up the fact that when I was growing up we where poor. Going hunting was a way that my father and I where able to, literally, put meat on the table during fall and winter.
When I ask then if they really would have wanted us to go hungry they stop and apologize. And the argument goes from no guns at all to problem guns in the hands of problem people. Once we get there a general discussion on gun right vs gun regulations can happen.

I know what you mean. If I voice my opinion that I don't think one should have a rifle for home protection in a city I get instant flak. "How could you possibly support gun control legislation?" even though I never say that I would. Nor would I ever vote for such a law preventing ownership of a rifle in a city. I just feel that one should use common sense and choose the correct self-defense tool. But far right automatically puts me in the same group as the far left if I'm not encouraging mandatory M4 ownership for all.

"…but here, in reality, they are piling up laws against us." NAILED IT!! Yes, let's push back. Politically, let's ask for something in return. Civilian Carry is the best defense against violent crime. The other side wants to use mass shooting as a cudgel against the Gun Community. That is absurd. We are the solution, not the problem. But so long as we stay out of the conversation, the average legislator will continue to have no idea of the truth.

You know how there are fathers in movies who are designed to always think they're right and to never compromise whatsoever and get angry all the time? The liberals think we gun owners are that 'father' figure. You gotta realize that these children honestly have some severe Daddy issues, not to make fun, and that they are projecting their insecurity on us for wanting the best for us and the nation.
"Why can't you just be a little nice dad and let us take away bump stocks? You never care about anything but guns!!"

I can hear their temper tantrum and how they believe doing something is always better than doing 'nothing'.
In their minds they are saving their friends down the street while their lazy and selfish dad is bitching about helping the friend.

Crazy little analogy I know but they do honestly have Daddy issues.

I must say that this sounds good in theory. In practice, from what I have experienced, this is the issue the people who dislike weapons have, at least the people I have had the opportunity to talk too. Most people don’t care about facts, even if you listen and try to empathize with their situation. They simply get pissed when they find out you support the 2nd amendment and begin saying things that are nothing but emotional blabber, completely void of rational thought.

I liken this to my childhood. When I was a child, I would say and do things that sometimes would require correction, something that everyone experiences (hopefully with good parents). I often felt confrontational when my mom or dad said “Actually you’re wrong.” They’d ask how I felt and listen and then tell me WHY. That’s the important part here for a few reasons. If you tell someone they’re wrong you must answer the why. The why is the reason.

Here is the bigger issue, when you have conversations with people who are against the right to possess arms and you answer the why, the vast majority are not will to listen to it, or if they are the push aside the answer you have them because they are more preoccupied with maintaining that so called “moral high ground”.

I understand where you come from on this point, because this in theory should be the best way to go about dealing with the mistruths and falsities that the gun grabbing elite try to push on uninformed everyday people. But those same people are not willing to reciprocate the same action. When that happens the only thing left to do is stand firm, because if you begin to let the ideals we hold slip a little bit in the hopes of a “conversation” then we have already lost.

Just my opinion and experience and is only worth the money paid for it. God Bless.

If your parasite politicians had any sense they would be coming out and educating the ignorant on what the constitution is and about. As well as letting them know that they are responsible for keeping themselves protected and safe whether out in public or at home.
